Colonoscopy Prep
For the days leading up to your colonoscopy, Dr Makhoba will sit down and discuss with you the diet you'll be expected to follow. The diet serves as bowel preparation for the colonoscopy. The bowel preparation needs to be completed correctly, or abnormal tissues could get overlooked, and the colonoscopy may need to be rescheduled or repeated.
48-72 hours before the colonoscopy, you’ll need to eat foods that are low in fibre such as eggs and other dairy products, as well as red meats and well-cooked vegetables that don't have skin.
For 24 hours before your colonoscopy, you'll be required to follow a clear liquid diet. This includes tea, black coffee and clear juices. The clear liquid diet continues the day of the procedure. You'll need to stop eating and drinking anything 2 hours before your colonoscopy.
You also need to inform Dr Makhoba of any medication that you're taking so that he can advise if you need to stop taking the medication for the duration of the procedure.
